FEDERICUS Medieval Festival

/ Photography / Events / Reportage

The medieval festival of Federicus is one of the most interesting events and reenactments in Italy. Born in 2012, it takes place every year in Altamura, a town that rises majestically above the Alta Murgia plateau in the province of Bari, generally between the end of April and the beginning of May.

The festival is celebrated in honor of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, also called "Stupor Mundi", who built the cathedral dedicated to S. Maria Assunta, between 1232 and 1254. The program develops through the alleys of the historic center of Altamura which in those days is filled with jesters, musicians, jesters, falconers, acrobats, stilt walkers, medieval markets and includes 2 historical processions in costume: the Children's Procession and the Imperial Procession.

During this event, I made a photo-reportage of some characters of the procession, the places and the games.
